About Hamilton Contra Dances

Hamilton Contra Dances is a volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to organizing and promoting contra dances in Hamilton.

HCD is also a community of dancers, dance organizers, callers, and musicians. When you come to a dance, you are welcomed into that community.

History

  • Hamilton Contra Dances was founded as Hamilton Country Dancers in 1987 by Stephen Fuller, a well-known Hamilton traditional fiddler, and Eldon Cooper, a caller from Port Dover, ON
  • Our current home is Dundas Town Hall, and previous homes have been HARRRP in east Hamilton, Erskine Presbyterian Church, All Saints' Church at the corner of King and Queen in downtown Hamilton, and Westdale United Church
